In the memory of Ralph Hoar: (1945-2001)
"Facets" Ralph W. Hoar, Jr.
Your life is a diamond.
There is not another like it.
You, like the diamond cutter,
Will choose the facets that best share
Your beauty with the world.
Take care that each facet is true.
For any untrue cut will hide your beauty
And cloud your wonder.
But, cut true, it will blaze in ways
That will sparkle and amaze
The humblest beggar and the noblest king.
You will walk with humility and nobility among them.
And when this journey ends
The diamond that was your life
Will last forever.
Ralph Hoar was an acquaintance on my path of self-discovery and a friend. I share this poem, written by Ralph to his son, to honor his striking example that being true to yourself, loving life and others at the same time is a real possibility.
We can never really know the true extent to which we impact others. We can only trust that the more we become like diamonds, the deeper the quality and value that impact will be.
But every diamond needs a polisher and others to hone, honor and appreciate its brilliance. And in honoring the brilliance in others we naturally illuminate our own.
In the memory of Ralph Hoar, in the spirit of honoring ourselves and each other along our path, please share this facet of one man's brilliance.
Better words that I could write about Ralph Hoar, his life and his contribution to us all through his efforts in Automobile Safety advocacy with The Safety Forum, which until his passing was just one of Ralph's' many passions.
